Scope and Contents From the Series: Gilbert Elliot Murray Kynynmound (1782-1859) was styled Viscount Melgund from 1813 and succeeded as Earl of Minto in 1814. He was Member of Parliament for Ashburton, 1806-1807, and for Roxburghshire, 1812-1814; and served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the King of Prussia 1832-1834, First Lord of the Admiralty, 1835-1841, Lord Privy Seal, 1846-1852, and on a special mission to Switzerland and the states of Italy, 1847-1848. Scope and Contents The notes concern the progress of titles of Buchanan (folio 8), abstracts of the Darnley Lennox writs (folio 15) and transcripts (most of which appear to be in another hand) of original documents in the Montrose Charter Room, several of which relate to the ancient earldom of Lennox (folio 30). The volume is undated but the contents do not appear to date before 1833 (folio 8 verso). Parts of the volume were not used: folios 2-7 (intended for an index which was never compiled), 23-29, 62-66...

Scope and Contents

Rose`s work was first written in 1683-1684: Shaw`s epitome records also later members of the family until about 1756 (folio 69 verso), with a supplement until about 1772 (folio 83 verso). This copy appears to have been written for the antiquary William Rose in Montcoffer in the same hand as Adv.MS.32.6.8, and has a note inside the front cover, a contents list at folio 1 and a few textual additions in his hand.

Work on styles, bearing (folio i) the name of John Spottiswoode, compiled 1761-1764 (dates on folio i, page 194). It includes 'Legal calendar or table of prescription' (page 145), essays on arrestments (page 147), 'Report 3d concerning priviledged summonses', 1759 (page 159), 'Abstract of the state of the Records of Scotland reported by Jas. Ker ... to a meeting of lawyers and writers', 1757 (page 167).
