Correspondence of Patrick Geddes with Lewis Mumford., 1915-1932, undated.
Included are several letters of Lewis Mumford to Frank Mears and Victor Branford. The correspondence deals principally with Mumford's early work, particularly between the years 1922 and 1929. Enclosed with a letter of 1922 (folio 29) is an outline of his book ‘The story of utopias. There is also a typescript of an essay entitled 'Graphics' (folio 68). In later letters he discusses his books ‘Sticks and stones’ and ‘Herman Melville’.
Draft outline of the novel ‘The guardian’ by Major Raymond A 'Sacha' Carnegie (died 1972).
The work, which concerns German officers during the Second World War, was published in London in 1966. The manuscript is heavily corrected and rewritten.

Robert McLellan (1907-1985) was born near Lanark and educated at Bearsden and Glasgow University. In 1938 he married and moved to Arran, where he spent the rest of his life, except for a period of service in the Royal Artillery, 1940-1946. His most important literary works were plays, but he also wrote poetry, short stories, and books on Arran.

The Douglas Cause was the lawsuit in which the tutors of James George, 7th Duke of Hamilton, contested the claim of Archibald James Edward Douglas, son of Lady Jane Douglas Stewart, to the lands of the Douglas family. Lord Monboddo, who was then an advocate, represented the Douglas side.
