Near contemporary fair copies of MSS.13768-13769: Private journals kept by Alexander Walker and William Stuart Walker, together with a copy of a private journal kept by James Walker, about the age of 8, during the voyage of the 'Repulse'., 1823.
Whilst at St Helena, Alexander Walker busied himself in promoting the agricultural potential of the island and in tackling the question of slavery.
Notebook, apparently the last of a group, containing a fair copy of an account of the end of a tour in Switzerland, presumably from France, made apparently by Mary E Haldane in company with her sister Jane Burdon-Sanderson., [?1870.]
The contents are dated 1876 (folio iv) but this seems to be a mistake as Mrs Haldane was at home in August that year (cf. MS.20096). Possibly the correct date should be 1870.
About half of the volume is blank.
Notebook of Agnes Mure Mackenzie containing the draft of a speech, ‘Women citizens’ and, tête-bêche, fair copies of her entries on Sir William Wallace and Robert the Bruce for an encyclopaedia., [?1954, or before.]
The notebooks include drafts of speeches, articles, letters, and also miscellaneous jottings. The final versions of some of these texts are included in the series MSS.9194-9197. Where this association is clear the reference has been provided.

The papers consist of notebooks containing notes on and for lectures and essays chiefly on philosophy (MSS.20213-20219), a quantity of writings on various topics (many incomplete) written on loose sheets (MSS.20220-20222) and press cuttings concerning the death and funeral of Richard B Haldane (MS.20223).

Robert Cadell (1788-1849) was the partner of Archibald Constable, and, after the dissolution of that partnership in 1825, the sole publisher of Walter Scott's novels. His papers reflect his personal and business relations with Scott and other authors, as well as his family affairs.
