Canntaireachd. Tablature (Musical notations).

 Subject
Subject Source: Local sources
Scope Note: Canntaireachd applied strictly refers to chanting as a representation of classical Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe music, piobaireachd, but the term is also applied loosely to the written representation of such chanting. The written form uses the indigenous notational system brought to its developed state by Colin Mór Campbell of Nether Lorn, in Argyll, at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. An example of written canntaireachd is as follows: 'Hindarid hindarid hiodarid hodarid hodarid hindarid'.
