Sixty-six pieces for violin, [circa 1680], (two in two parts), chiefly dances, with a further seven pieces in tablature (apparently for a three-stringed instrument) (MS.5777);
'Lessones for ye Violin', a collection of twenty-eight pieces for violin, [circa 1680], including dances, marches, a set of variations, and Scots airs (MS.5778);
Twenty-three pieces of music, chiefly dances, in French lute tablature, mid 17th century (MS.9451).
Miscellaneous pieces and scraps of music by Maude Beswick., Mid 20th century.
The pieces include vocal music, versions of the ‘Reverie’ and ‘Romance’ for violin and piano (MS.2635: 'Violin solos'), and ‘The waterwheel’ for piano (also found as a piece marked ‘tempo giusto’ in MS.21638 ('Piano solos').

The contents are as follows:
(i) Score of ‘Duo for two violins (no. 10)’ by John Davidson; not the same as that in MS.22076 where it was formerly loosely enclosed (folio 1);
(ii) Letter, 1917, to and notes, undated, of Davidson (folio 5);
(iii) The words (printed) of a 'Grand processional march', ?1896, on the verso of which is a strathspey in the hand of James Scott Skinner (folio 8);
(iv) Letter, 1917, of Skinner to Davidson (folio 9).

Contains a note to the effect that it is copied from Mr Frank Kidson's manuscript copy, which is endorsed, "A copy of Muir Wood's facsimile of the original which is in the possession of Alan W. Inglis" (folio 12).

Music book containing Scottish dance tunes (very largely reels and strathspeys) for violin.
The music book is gold-stamped 'violin' on the front cover.
Many of the tunes appear to be of late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century provenance. The volume appears to have been compiled in the mid nineteenth century (cf., for example, folios 41, 47).
The leaves of the volume exhibit much handling, but the identity of the compiler is unknown. The volume is thought to have had a possible Perthshire provenance.

The manuscript consists of gatherings of leaves from an account book (possibly MS.22030) cut down to stubs on which are mounted single sheets and some bifolia containing the music.
At the end (folios 46 verso and what follows) are pieces for solo violin and other groups of strings.
Some of the leaves are old bills ruled and used for music.
The covers are two sheets of card.

Composers named are J[ohn] Bannister (whose allemande, courante, and contredanse on folios 2 verso-3 verso also appear in MS.9454, folios 10 verso-11 verso), [Matthew] Locke, [Raphael] Courteville, Clayton, [Louis] Grabu, Baptista [?Lully], [Robert] Smith, and [John] Jenkins.
Parts of this manuscript (e.g. folios 2 verso-4) appear to be in the same hand as MS.9454.
