The bulk of the material dates from ca.1979-1990, though there are some earlier and later items. Much of it concerns McGrath’s work outside 7:84, the theatre company which he and others established in 1971.

This collection dates mainly from after 1988, when John McGrath and Elizabeth MacLennan resigned from the company which they had established, with David MacLennan, in 1973. Following the funding crisis in 2006, the company had to leave its base in the STUC building in Glasgow, and it was at this point that much of the material in this accession was presented to the National Library of Scotland.

Mavor's screenplay, 'Reichenbach Falls', was based on Ian Rankin's short story 'The Acid Test'. It was commissioned as part of BBC Four's fifth birthday celebrations in March 2007. The television movie premiered on BBC Four on 1 March 2007. ‘Reichenbach Falls’ was a BBC Scotland co-production with BBC Four. The Director was John McKay and the Executive Producers were Richard Fell and Anne Mensah.
