Scope and Contents From the Series:

Most of the typescripts are undated, and relatively few have been published. Some of the one-act plays were written for amateur drama groups competing in Scottish Community Drama festivals. Joe Corrie sometimes wrote more than one play with the same plot, and he would alter an act of a longer play to make it a one-act play in its own right. He also adapted some of his stage plays for broadcasting.

The contents are as follows. (i) 'A Saint in Armour: a play in four scenes', ?1954 (folio 1); (ii) “The Maid of Domrémy”, undated (folio 123). This is the first scene only of (i), with a few alterations, and may be the text of the play televised on 4 February 1954.

The plays include an adaptation of Tom Hanlin's novel ‘Once in every lifetime’ (London, 1945) (folio 29) and three plays (folios 1, 86, 137) related to his short stories (MS.27421, folios 13, 83, 102). There are two versions of the play 'One more chance' (folios 86, 112).

The contents are as follows. (i) Dramatised biographies of Pandita Ramabai (folio 1) and Theodore Pennell (folio 14), broadcast on the children's radio programme 'Pioneers for the Kingdom', 1937. 'Pandita Ramabai' has numerous manuscripts corrections. (ii) 'The Thought-Recorder', a play for television, undated (folio 39). It was originally written under the pseudonym 'Juniper Struan'.

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

This series contains typescripts of, and associated working papers for, scripts and screenplays of Ian Rankin for broadcast media. Outputs include plays, short stories, and documentaries for radio as well as television productions. Some productions were not aired. The working papers include developmental and editorial notes. Also included are administrative papers relating to the process of broadcasting. Additionally, some promotional materials and related correspondence are included.
