This collection consists of the papers of David Thomson, author, researcher and BBC radio producer. It includes the scripts and correspondence of many BBC radio programmes from the 1950s and 60s, original scripts and correspondence regarding his published and unpublished books, and additional correspondence spanning forty five years working for UNESCO, the BBC, and as a full time writer.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

Robert Sutherland (1909-1981) who wrote under the name 'Robert Garioch', was educated in Edinburgh and, after the war of 1939-1945 when he was a prisoner in Italy and Germany, became a schoolteacher in Kent. He returned to Edinburgh in 1959, where he taught and worked for the School of Scottish Studies in the University.

Also included is a sketch book of Rob Fairley, 'Kathmandu: being a brief history of a walk from Nag Pokhari to Pushputinath on the first night of Diwali 1997'; and a printed catalogue, 'Rob Fairley: the early works'. The box lid is covered on the outside in the remnants of a purple, synthetic waterproof jacket. The rest of the outside of the box is covered in green fabric. The box is lined with a map showing the isles of Rhum (in part) and Eigg, and part of Arisaig.
