Education and professional training, ca.1933-1952 and undated
Notebooks and notes, largely unsorted, dating from Farquhar Macintosh's school and university and teacher training years. Subjects covered are mainly history and education.
Gaelic notebooks, ca. 1950-1970
Eleven notebooks on subjects concerning Gaelic literature and culture, folk traditions and Highland life. Most of the contents are written in Gaelic. The notebooks are undated, but the majority bear the name of Glasgow Academy, where Macintosh began to teach in 1953, and were probaby compiled between that year and the late 1960s. Some of the notes can be dated to the 1960s due their link to Macintosh's activity as a contributor to newspaper columns.

Notes and article drafts on various Highland-related subjects, ca. 1950-1970
Notebook in Gaelic and English containing drafts of speeches and of articles probably for publication as newspaper columns. There are also notes on a variety of other subjects concerning Highland history and traditions. One of the pieces (folio 22v)concerns the recent death of the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Macleod (d. 1955). 30 folios. The text on folios 22v-30v begins at the back of the volume and the pages are written on in reverse order.

An essay or paper on the origins and antiquity of occupational songs, cradle songs and incantations. At the back of the volume are notes on plant names and lore, with some notes loosely inserted.
Poetry and linguistics, ca. 1950
A notebook, 67 folios. Contains notes, in English and Gaelic, on Gaelic language and poetry. Folios 8r-10r contain an essay, in Gaelic, on Màiri nighean Alasdair Ruaidh; folios 57r-67v contain notes and glossaries on individual Gaelic poets and songs. With a sheet containing notes on 'Acallamh na Senórach', dated May 1948, loosely inserted.
