Sketchbooks, undated but apparently compiled at points throughout Peter White's life, including drawings in pencil, ink and watercolour, along with occasional descriptive text.

The sketchbooks cover travels in Scotland, France, Ireland and England, including Yorkshire, Newcastle and London, and feature topographical views, buildings, and detailed scenes of agriculture and industry.

The sketches, which are in pencil except for a few in watercolour or crayon, are mostly of architectural details and ornament, chiefly from churches. There are some sketches of buildings in Scotland (MSS.10658-10659), Northern France (MS.10661) and the English cathedral cities. There are also drawings of mediaeval musical instruments (MS.10662), armour (MS.10663) and objects from museums, especially metalwork and jewellery (MS.10665).
