Scope and Contents

Charles Murray's literary output was almost entirely poetic, and he was widely known as 'Hamewith', the title of his most popular collection, first published in 1900. These papers reflect both his literary work and his early travels in South Africa.

The title has been taken from the front cover. The date on the cover is given as 1852, but an annotation on the galley proofs, in Peel`s hand, confirms the date of the speech as 19 August 1842.

Scope and Contents The main text ends on folio 221 verso. Folio 222 contains 30 hexameters on Boethius (incipit 'Floruit hic doctor clarusque Boetius autor'). Folios 223-228 recto contain an 'exortatio' 'ad honorem dei et sanctorum apostolorum petri et pauli', written by Miniclardi in 1444.
