Apart from the film music, which is datable to 1947-1948 from the accompanying correspondence and papers (MSS.22085-22086), almost all the music is undated; but from the ink used, some of it may be dated to about the same period.

Scope and Contents

Also included are several photostats of letters, 1923-1924, between Geddes and his youngest son, Arthur, who was working in Santiniketan, Bengal, and a few letters, 1924-1926, from the Reverend Charles F Andrews, Vice President of Rabindranath Tagore's Institution, Santiniketan. Both Tagore and Jagadis Chadra Bose discuss their work. Bose, in particular, describes his research involving electric phenomena and plant response. He was founder of the Bose Research Institute in Calcutta.

Most of the music consists of portions of photostats of his original score (with some amendments in ink) pasted to the leaves of the sheets, with omitted parts and amendments supplied by Percy Grainger. A sheet containing a typed programme note and 'hints to bandmasters' dated 1938 is tipped in at the front. Other notes, both typed and manuscript, are tipped in at the back (folios ii-iv).
