Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

The collection consists of manuscripts on a wide variety of subjects, many copied from manuscript or printed works, and chiefly dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Among them are some account-books, diaries, and other manuscripts of family interest (including a few concerning the 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, father of the 6th Marchioness of Lothian), but very few letters.

Manuscripts and typescripts of poems of George Campbell Hay., ?1925-1982.

Scope and Contents

The papers include both original work and translations by George Campbell Hay. The earliest poems were transcribed by his mother, who also typed and annotated some of the later ones. As in Hay's notebooks, the dates given are the dates of transcription, which are not always coincidental with the date of composition.

Scope and Contents

Some of the poems are written on scrap paper and the backs of envelopes. There are a few typed transcripts and notes by Marie Singer, who has also dated some of the poems. (i) Poems published in 'The collected poems of Burns Singer' edited by W A S Keir (London, 1970), and 'Five centuries of Polish poetry', an anthology by J Peterkiewicz and Burns Singer (London, 1960) (folio 1); (ii) Poems and fragments apparently unpublished (folio 72).

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: Ruthven Todd was born and educated in Edinburgh, and from 1932 to 1934 worked as a farm labourer in Mull before moving to London where he joined the Bohemian world of writers and artists in Fitzrovia. In 1947, he left for the United States where he eventually settled in Martha's Vineyard and became an American citizen.
