Scope and Contents A transcription in 2 volumes of Royal Irish Academy 130 (24 P28) into Roman hand by Dr Donald Smith, then surgeon with the Black Watch at Enniskillen. Royal Irish Academy 130 24 P 28 was written in 1698 by Pádruic Mac Oghannán. Mac Oghannán’s scribal notes are copied at pages 262 and 697.Cross-references to the text in Adv.MS.72.1.46 are to be found in John Smith Junior’s hand at pages 296, 316, 382, 388, 412, 422. An Cath Cathardha. Beginning ‘Ceithre hiosdadha Flaitheasa attarastair Flaitheas & Forlamhus for Chriochaibh ⁊Chinneadhchuibh na Cruinne domhanda isin aimsir anull’. On versos the scribe adds relevant quotations from Latin texts, notably books I-VII of Lucan’s ‘Pharsalia’, from which the tale derives.

The text is written on rectos only, with footnotes.

An Cath Cathardha. Beginning “Oighidh Aip. / Ro choimhead an toice go cudroma na dáThaoiseach”. Subscribed (page 697) ‘Ego autem hoc Exemplar finivi pridie Calendas Iunii 1797. D.S.’ under this, in the Reverend Dr John Smith’s hand, is “Transcribed from a copy in the possession of the Revd. J. Kelly at Hall’s Miln near Banbridge. (Ireland) Letters to &c. p.275”.

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

Aside from, though related to, his work with 7:84, John McGrath was involved in the study of political theatre, and was himself the subject of many articles, papers and dissertations. Much of the material listed in this section falls into this category, though there is also some that might equally well have been incorporated into the main 7:84 sequence, and vice-versa. There is some overlap with, and duplication of, items in the main sequence.
