Ratified, 3 July 1620, by Sir James Campbell of Lawers and Patrick Grahame of Inchbrakie as donators of the ward of Andrew Toshach.

Some of the items in this series belong in other parts of the Saltoun collection, but their relationship was not discovered until after the arrangement had been finalised; others may have been acquired by various members of the family.

The principal subjects are the settlement of the 2nd Duke's estate; lists of charters to be signed; wadsets; compensation for the abolition of heritable jurisdictions; entail and will of the 3rd Duke; the succession to Archibald Campbell of Inverliver; petitions; and the funeral and biography of the 3rd Duke.

As well as charters relating to the Chalmers family itself, there are other items which are apparently unrelated but which came with the bulk of the papers. Only one document (Ch.12806) is of 15th century date, and only one (Ch.12776) is of the 16th century. The rest of the collection dates largely from the 17th and 18th centuries. Personal and legal papers of and concerning the Lairds of Inchbraikie, chiefly adjudications and decreets, 1675-1718, concerning the wadset of the lands of Beldhill., 1555-1796.
The papers also consist of instructions of Perthshire Committee of War, 1639, (folio 8), and commission to Patrick, younger of Inchbraikie, to act as Colonel for the shire of Perth, 1651 (folio 10).

Wadset by Robert Vrich, burgess of Dunde, to Annabella, Queen of Scots, of two cellars in a tenement in Perth for 20 merks paid by the Queen., 6 June 1397.
The charter and legal material contained here is of importance as giving the continuous history of a landed family in Fife from the 13th to the 18th century. The Halkett family appear to have risen partly on the decline of the Lochores of Lochore. By 1431, the former are having transumpts made of charters of the early 13th century granted to the latter (Ch.6018-6019).
