This sub-series comprises original print prospectuses and some brief promotional ephemera (postcards and bookmarks) for John Murray publications. All files contain their original typescript indexes created by the company. The vast majority date from the 1890s-1920s.

Original alphabetisation by author surname has been retained, but it is noted that certain files contain outlying prospectuses where they have been included for their subject matter rather than their author, e.g. certain prospectuses on archaeological topics may be found in file 'A' instead of with their individual named authors; and a biography of a particular personality may be found under the subject's surname rather than the biographer's surname.
