This sub-series comprises printed catalogues created to promote John Murray's 'forthcoming publications' as well as 'new and recent publications'. Published initially in quarterly installments, in January, April, July and October, later catalogues became less frequent, first becoming tri-annual and subsequently having only bi-annual installments. Many of the early catalogues were subsequently bound together in hardcover by the company, and titled as 'Murray's Quarterly List' or simply 'Murray's List', while the later catalogues (post-1979) remain loose. A small number of bound volumes also contain manuscript notes, letters, ephemera, and additional catalogues for special occasions such as Christmas. In addition, the majority of the early catalogues (to 1979) have been heavily annotated with notes on corrections, publication dates, and content. A number of these early bound catalogues appear twice as each individual volume contains its own distinct annotations. The run of catalogues is incomplete.
