Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows.

(i) ‘Proclamation for a Tournament’, held at Corfu, 1834, in Greek, English, and Italian.

(ii) Proclamation relating to the Rebecca Riots in Brecon, 1843.

(iii) ‘Rules and Regulations to be observed on the occupation of cells of approved construction’, issued by the Adjutant-General, November 1844.

(iv) ‘Exercise with Heavy Shot, as a means of enforcing a sentence of hard labour’, undated.

Numbers (iii) and (iv) accompanied Lieutenant-Colonel Jebb's letter of 7 November ?1849 (MS.2846, folio 345), and bear alterations, apparently in his hand.

(v) ‘The Delhi Gazette’, 28 October 1857, containing a notice of the death of Major Alexander Robertson.

(vi) Cutting from ‘The Times’, 3 November 1857, 'The Futtehgur Mutiny'.

(vii) “La Bataille d'Inkerman”, by Saint-Priest, Duke d'Almazan, extracted from the ‘Revue des Deux Mondes’, 15 May 1858, sent to General Sir George Brown, with queries and a note by Colonel Alexander F Macdonell.

(viii-x) Royal Warrants numbers 332, 334, 339, of 1858, on Army matters.

(xi) Confidential ‘Memorandum on the means of Recruiting the Army, and on an Army of Reserve’, by John Robert Godley, 22 March 1859, with pencil comments by General Sir George Brown.

(xii) ‘Provisional Rules and Regulations for the Organization of the Commissariat Corps’, 10 May 1859.

(xiii-xiv) Two memoranda, ‘Indian Reliefs’, November 1859 and October 1863.

(xv) Proofs, April 1863, of part of a criticism of Alexander William Kinglake’s 'Invasion of the Crimea' (London, 1863).

(xvi) “The Ensign's Tear”, verse, by 'Timothy Tickler'.

(xvii) Programme of garrison theatricals, printed at Delhi.

(xviii) Map of Persia, India, and the Near East.

(xix) ‘A Plan for the Government & Working of a Railway’.

(xxi) Plan of a house, perhaps that referred to in letters of 1817 (see MS.2835).
