The collection consists of a mixture of personal (1931-1942) and political papers (1935-1985). The political papers reflect his activity as SNP candidate for East Edinburgh at the 1945 general election as well as his involvement in nationalist politics in Scotland and particularly in Edinburgh. It also contains material relating to the early days of the SNP, including organizational records of the party and an interesting group of newsletters and nationalist literature dealing with a broad range of topics.
