Carbon typescript of 'The Mystery of Gorbals Terrace', a four act play by Alexander McArthur (1901-1947).
The play was originally written in 1944-1945. This typescript contains manuscript corrections by the author, Alexander McArthur and a number of notes stating that a copy sent to Unity Theatre, Glasgow, was not returned, and implying that it was used by Robert McLeish as a source for his 'Gorbals Story'.
Copy in typescript carbon of the catalogue, compiled by Hugh Sharp, of his collection of books.
This is a copy of MSS.5053-5054 with the leaves arranged differently, in two separate alphabetical sequences, and was the working copy used by the donor, Campbell White, in looking after the collection before Hugh Sharp's death.

Journal kept by William Maxwell, managing director of R and R Clark, the Edinburgh printers, on a trip to the United States and Canada in October and November 1932.
The volumes contain carbon copies of diary-letters to a friend in Edinburgh, of which folios 51-65 are duplicated in MS.9759 by the retention of the originals. The journal contains a description of the sea voyage and the social life of his tour, but is notable for its detailed descriptions of visits to printing houses, particularly Donnelley's of Chicago (MS.9759, folios 51-65) and the Government Printing Office, Washington (MS.9760, folios 1-29).
