The volume, dated 16 January 1925 (folio 71), is the carbon copy of a retyped version of MS.5921 as revised, and was presented by Richard Haldane to his mother on her hundredth birthday, 9 April 1925 (folio iii).

Hector MacIver was born in the Isle of Lewis and educated in Stornoway and at Edinburgh University. Except for a period of service in the Navy (1940-1945), he spent his life teaching, mostly in the Royal High School in Edinburgh. He wrote and broadcast in both English and Gaelic.

Ruthven Todd was originally commissioned to write the official biography of Dylan Thomas, but failed to do so. These manuscripts are his reminiscences of the poet, which were not published except for chapter 12 which appeared in the ‘Mediterranean Review’, volume i, number 3 (1971), pages 15-23.
