This series contains 24 files related to book publishing projects which appear to have been cancelled before publication. Files primarily contain correspondence between John Murray, publishers, and the respective authors concerned, alongside original and/or copy contracts, editorial memoranda, and third party letters concerning the projects. A number of these titles appear to have been published subsequently by other publishing houses.

Charter (lege, contract), dated 12 December 1605, registered in Books of Session 1 January 1606, David Reid of Aikenheid and Edward, Lord Bruce of Kinloss, Dame Magdalene Clerk, his spouse, and Edward Bruce, their son and heir, by which the former for 25,000 merks dispones to them the lands of Easter and Wester Pitdynneis with houses, etc., 12 December 1605.

The charter and legal material contained here is of importance as giving the continuous history of a landed family in Fife from the 13th to the 18th century. The Halkett family appear to have risen partly on the decline of the Lochores of Lochore. By 1431, the former are having transumpts made of charters of the early 13th century granted to the latter (Ch.6018-6019).

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: Containing the correspondence, accounts and papers of three Caithness families, the Williamsons of Banniskirk, the Sinclairs of Southdun and the Hendersons of Stemster, Bower. The papers span the seventeenth to twentieth centuries. The bulk of the papers relate to the Ulbster estates in Caithness, under the Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Williamson's and Captain David Henderson's respective factorships. The family acquired various properties in Angus which were consolidated into the baronies of Innerpeffer and Turin; after Sir Andrew`s purchase of Saltoun the Angus property was sold, some to Col Sir Francis Ruthven in 1648, some to George, Lord Spynie in 1650, and some to George, Earl of Panmure in 1663; current titles will have passed to the purchasers.
