Alexander de Forbes (c.1380-1448) was created the 1st Lord Forbes around 1440, the Lords Forbes of Pitsligo were descended from Sir William Forbes, brother of Alexander. The papers include fourteenth-century fragments of St Thomas Aquinas's ‘Summa Theologica’ (folio 1), a fragment of a roll of a [? manor] court held at Heydon, 1515 (folio 6), a letter, 1677, of Thomas Osborne, Earl of Danby (folio 9), a plan, 1810, for alterations to the Cathcart road, near Glasgow (folio 34), and some political verses (folios 11, 85).
