The great majority of the works are of the eighteenth century; but the earlier ones include one each by Andrew Melville (folio 1) and Arthur Johnston (folio 3), both apparently unpublished.

Scope and Contents Sections (i), (ii), (v), and (vi) are written by Mylne himself; (iii) and (iv) by another late-seventeenth- or early-eighteenth-century hand; the last addition in (vi) is by an eighteenth-century hand. Sections (i), (ii), (iii)-(iv), and (vi) originally had separate paginations: Mylne has overwritten these in paginating throughout. An instruction to his binder survives on folio 75.
