Letters sent between Naomi Mitchison and various correspondents. Correspondents include her husband Dick Mitchison; writers Bessie Head, George Mackay Brown and Joan Aiken; as well as Kgosi Linchwe II and Kathleen Nono Motsepe. Also includes non-legal contract and cover letter written by Naomi Mitchison addressing H. T. Wade-Gery.
Assorted, printed items concerning William Gifford either personally, or in his capacity as editor of the "Quarterly Review"., 1815-? 1827.

It probably belonged to Jean Lang, née Blaikie, to whom many of the letters are addressed, but a substantial amount of the correspondence is to William Miller, Member of the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland, and the physician, Sir Thomas Lauder-Brunton.

Autograph letter of Mary Queen of Scots to James Beaton, Archbishop of Glasgow and her Ambassador in France, thanking him for sweetmeats, and requesting that all assistance may be given to Madame de Briante, who has returned to France about certain law suits., 1574.
