Scope Note: Scots Law. A contract entered into ante or post-nuptially between persons about to be or actually married, for the purpose of regulating the rights in property of themsleves and their children. Most of the formal documents relate to members of the family of Menzies of that ilk (formerly Menzies of Weem and Enoch) and other persons of the name; Ch.10647 is a passport issued, 1846, to Sir Hew H. Dalrymple, 6th Baronet, whose descendant, the Hon Sir Hew Dalrymple compiled the collection to which all these papers belong.

Only one document (Ch.12806) is of 15th century date, and only one (Ch.12776) is of the 16th century. The rest of the collection dates largely from the 17th and 18th centuries. Scope and Contents From the Series: The charters of the Minto family include titles to all the lands owned by the family in Roxburghshire, Fife, and Angus. The Roxburghshire titles include a few from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries but they and the Angus titles are not numerous until the seventeenth century.
