Scope and Contents From the Series: Sir Charles Dalrymple (1839-1916), formerly Fergusson, was the youngest son of Sir Charles Dalrymple Fergusson, 5th Baronet, of Kilkerran. He succeeded to the estates of Hailes on the death of his father in 1849, when he assumed the name of Dalrymple. He was created a baronet in 1887, and a Privy Councillor in 1905. Scope and Contents From the Series: Arthur Ralph Douglas Elliot was the second son of the 3rd Earl of Minto. He was educated privately, at Edinburgh University, and at Trinity College, Cambridge. After a brief period of practice on the Northern Circuit, he was elected Liberal M P for Roxburghshire in 1880; in 1886 he opposed Gladstone's Home Rule policy but held his seat as a Liberal Unionist until 1892. Contains two printed items: A copy of The Camanachd Association: Constitution and Rules of Play, 1952-1953; Camanachd Cup Final souvenir programme of Kyles Athletic v. Newtonmore, Saturday 11th April, 1959, Glasgow.

Also contains notes by Farquhar Macintosh on the history of shinty, and an address given to the Camanachd Association, written on headed notepaper dated 1959. Macintosh was honorary secretary of Glasgow University Shinty Club.

Gilbert Elliot was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1688, created a baronet in 1700, and appointed a Lord of Session as Lord Minto in 1705; he acquired the lands of Headshaw in Roxburghshire in 1696, and added Minto to his property in 1703.
