Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

Two commonplace books of Lady Caroline Lamb. The first, the 'green book', contains poems, literary passages, sketches, watercolours, and translations from Greek, among other entries. The second, the 'blue book’, is addressed to Lord Byron, with whom Lamb had a disastrous affair in 1812. She compiled the 'blue book' as a commemoration of their affair and it contains letters to the poet, as well poems, prose passages and watercolours.

Scope and Contents

Lamb refers to performance of 'the Tragedy' [Byron's Marino Faliero, Doge of Venice]. Lamb also asks Hobhouse to send her one of Byron's poems ‘pray send me the lines Ld Byron wrote to Mr. Moore upon his going away in the Boat' and refers to a 'commission' she had undertaken on Hobhouse's behalf.

Scope and Contents Lady Caroline Lamb (1785-1828) commenced a three month affair with Lord Byron in 1812, despite being married to William Lamb, the future 2nd Viscount Melbourne. The affair impacted the rest of her life and the many letters here reflect her obsession with the poet as well as other aspects of her life.
