Scope and Contents

Hardback sketchbook with marbled cover containing 74 pages of drawings. Mediums used include ink and pencil. Majority of images are untitled and undated. Subject matter includes character studies, with a number of images depicting performers, including clowns, burlesque dancers, opera singers, and musicians (including violinist Leonard Friedman). The following operas and plays are specifically noted, Turandot, and Much Ado About Nothing. Actors from the latter production are depicted in character including John Hart Dyke as Don Pedro; John Bancroft as Don John; Samantha Bond as Hero; Richard Kay as Benedict; Anne Stallybrass as Beatrice; Joseph Greig as Verges; Angelo Gibson as Borachio; Russell Hunter as Dogberry; and Michael Cotterill as Leonato. Sketchbook also contains 4 pages of manuscript notes by the artist on the topic of dragons.
