Bibliography

The manuscript is identical with the speech published in ‘The speeches and judgement of the ... Lords of Council and Session ... etc.' (Edinburgh, 1768), compiled by William Anderson, but differs from the version printed in ‘The Douglas Cause’ (Glasgow, 1909) by A Francis Steuart, who appears to have regarded William Anderson's sources and methods of obtaining information as untrustworthy.
