Custodial History
The manuscript was bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.
The manuscript originates from Buildwas Abbey (cf. Balliol College, Oxford, MS.229). On folio 1 is a fifteenth-century library pressmark M51m, attributed by N R Ker in ‘Mediaeval libraries of Great Britain’, page 124, to the London Carmelites. There are notes, probably by John Borthwick, circa 1804, on folio 17 verso, stating that the book was found in Heriot Kirk, Midlothian, 'where it is probable it has long remained'. The rest of the notes concern rights to property of the Borthwick family.
The name 'Mr John Hughes' appears on the inside of the back cover in a seventeenth-century hand.
Contains the bookplate of John Borthwick of Crookston.
