Frere, Catherine.

Letters, 1857-1895, of Catherine Frere to John Murray III, John Murray IV and Hallam Murray. They concern various matters, mostly in relation to Lady Frere’s husband, Sir (Henry) Bartle. The subjects include: the publication of several editions of Sir Bartle’s essay, “Indian missions” (1873 and 1874); the preparation and publication of John Martineau’s biography of Sir Bartle: “The life and correspondence of Sir Bartle Frere, Bart., G.C.B., F.R.S.” (1895); and family news of “Bartie”, the Frere’s son, and of their daughters.

Letters, 1876-1919, of Catherine Frances Frere to John Murray III, John Murray IV and Hallam Murray. They concern various matters, including: personal relations; the preparation and publication of John Martineau’s biography of Sir Bartle Frere, “The life and correspondence of Sir Bartle Frere, Bart., G.C.B., F.R.S.” (1895); and, mention of the preliminary discussions over a possible French translation of Mary Frere’s “Old Deccan days, or, Hindoo fairy legends current in Southern India”.
