Scope and Contents

The letters are mostly to John Murray II. They concern Sharon Turner’s legal work for Murray. Most are signed by Turner, but a few are signed “Turner and Son”. Others concern Turner’s own literary and scholarly interests and opinions. Also included are letters of Alfred Turner [Note 7], Sharon’s son and associate, mostly signed “Turner and Son”.

The letters are arranged chronologically.

1822-1824: folios 1-32;

1825-1827: folios 33-70 [Notes 1-3];

1828: folios 71-98;

1829: folios 99-118 [Note 4];

1830-1832: folios 119-134 [Note 5];

1836-1838, 1840, 1842, 1843: folios 135-149 [Note 6].

[Note 1.] Folios 51-52. Letter, [June 1826], of Turner and Son to Edward Dundas, John Murray, Albemarle Street. The letter appears to be in the hand of Alfred Turner.
