Miscellaneous papers of John Wilson Croker concerning Robert Walpole, including a pamphlet, "Walpoliana" (London, 1783), by Philip, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke., 1783-1857.
Scope and Contents
Politician John Wilson Croker (1780-1857) was also a prolific writer. He wrote numerous articles for the 'Quarterly Review', which had been established by John Murray in 1809. The articles written by Croker covered many topics including politics, literature and history.
As a result of this close connection with the house of Murray, there are hundreds of letters in the archive of Croker, mostly to John Murray [II] and John Murray [III]. There are also manuscripts for four of his articles, including his controversial review of 'Endymion' by John Keats, and unpublished pages for his biography on Henrietta, Countess of Suffolk. In addition, there is some miscellaneous material relating to Croker, including a pamphlet entitled 'Walpoliana'.
