Scope and Contents

The relationship between Washington Irving and the house of Murray is represented through this sequence of correspondence. The letters here were written by Irving from Britain, Spain and the United States of America to both John Murray [II] and John Murray [III]. In addition, there are letters from the American publisher George Putnam, who produced the American versions of the works of Irving. These letters mainly relate to the copyright of these works.
