‘Rebellion. A Poem in Five Books’: a narrative poem describing the ’Forty-five., 1748.
Scope and Contents
The poem begins:
"Rebellion long triumphing o’er our Laws,
True Britons dying in their Country’s Cause."
From a note on folio 20 it appears that the poem was composed in August 1748. According to a pencilled note on folio 64 verso, the numerous corrections in pencil were made by Robert Southey with a view to publication. On folio 65 is written, ‘William Storey Feby 16 1799’.
