Scope and Contents

The papers consist of the following:

(i) 'Instructions for preparing a case for the Duke of Hamilton touching his peerage as Duke of Brandon & c. and proceedings in the House of Lords on the Duke of Queensberry petition’ 1719 (folio 1);

(ii) Printed recommendations to the King by the commissioners for securing the peace of the Highlands concerning the provisions of schools in the Highlands, 1716, with a manuscript, 1733, 'Memorial concerning the provisions made by Parliam[en]t for establishing schools in the Highlands of Scotland’ (folio 11);

(iii) Address, 1727, of the University of Glasgow (folio 15);

(iv) 'Memorial and queries for James Duke of Athole’ with the answers of the Attorney-General, 1733 (folio 16);

(v) Memorials, 1733, concerning the bill disqualifying Scottish judges from membership of the House of Commons (folio 19);
