Working papers of Ian Rankin for his novel ‘The Falls’, 2000-2002.
Scope and Contents
Page 1, circa 1999, of first and second drafts of Ian Rankin’s novel 'The Falls'. Folios 1-3.
Developmental, 2000, notes of Ian Rankin for his novel ‘The Falls’. Folios 4-49.
The notes include research and working notes as well as editorial notes of Rankin. Also included are editorial notes of Caroline Oakley (Folio 49).
Some of the notes include references to specific drafts, including first, second, and third drafts. Otherwise, the distinction between the notes and drafts is often unclear, as most of the notes are undated, and some notes have been revisited and subsequently annotated by Rankin as his development of the novel progressed. As far as possible, evidence of changes in theme and plot have been used to inform the arrangement.
Press cuttings, 2000-2002, taken by Ian Rankin as research for his novel ‘The Falls’. Folios 50-57.
The newspaper and magazine cuttings and pages contain articles relating to plot and character development for Rankin’s novel ‘The Falls’.
The cuttings are arranged chronologically.
