Most of the notes are undated. As far as possible, evidence of development and changes in theme and plot have been used to inform the arrangement.
Includes manuscript note with doodles, ‘The author at work’ (Folio 8).
Includes 'Excisions made between drafts 1 and 2 of Westwind': typescript pages removed from MS.0120 (Folios 17-31).
Includes letters sent to Rankin from Michael Shaw (agent, Curtis Brown) regarding the editorial process of ‘Westwind’ (Folios 32-34).
Newspaper cuttings and magazines, 1987, containing information relating to plot and character development for Rankin’s novel ‘Westwind’. Folios 35-87.
Press cuttings are largely related to satellites and spying.
Items are arranged chronologically, with undated cuttings at end.
