Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows:

(i) 'The nativite of bairnis' of William, 7th Lord Forbes, and his wife Elizabeth Keith, being the names and dates of birth of their sixteen children (folio 1);

(ii) Orders issued by Colonel Robert Montgomerie protecting Robert Gordon of Straloch and exempting him from any 'monthly maintenance' in accordance with the decision of the Estates of Parliament, 1649 (folio 2);

(iii) Letter of Robert Gordon of Straloch to the Marquess of Argyll, asking him ‘to favor a business I have a petition to the Estates for', 1651 (folio 4);

(iv) Letter of -- Muirhead, Lady of Belstanes, to Sir Daniel Carmichael of Mauldslie, regarding money matters, 1676 (folio 6);

(v) Letter of Alex Cumming to the 'Laird of Birnes', 1721 (folio 8);

(vi) 'Sundry Anecdotes of Peter the first' of Russia, 1779; ascribed in a different hand to Lord Hyndford, but written probably, according to a pencilled note, by Patrick Bell, Doctor of Medicine, of Antermony, physician at St Petersburg at that time (folio 10).
