The contents are as follows: Volume containing 418 marches, hornpipes, and jigs, 235 strathspeys and reels, and 14 piobaireachd, 1687 (Acc.8396, number 1);

Volume containing a small collection of marches and dances by Duncan Fergusson, 1884 (Acc.8396, number 2);

Collection of 164 strathspeys and reels, and one piobaireachd (lament for Cluny Macpherson, ‘composed by Malcolm Macpherson, 1885’), 19th century (Acc.8396, number 3);

Collection of about 200 marches given in 1909 by Thomas Cockburn, Portobello, to George Cockburn, Craigmillar (Acc.8396, number 4);

Notebook containing 30 marches and dances arranged for bagpipes, though some originally for other instruments (Acc.8396, number 7);

Volume containing 32 marches, 4 strathspeys, and 6 reels, compiled by Pipe Major J H R Tinsdale, after 1945 (Acc.8396, number 8);

Manuscript transcript (1878) of O’Farrell’s ‘National Irish music for the union pipes’ (Acc.8396, number 12).
