Scope and Contents From the Series: Vero L Bosazza, a South Africa geologist who worked in various African countries, became interested in the nineteenth century travellers there, especially David Livingstone. In retirement he wrote extensively on them, his personal knowledge of the localities giving his work a dimension frequently lacking in other scholarship. His writings are almost entirely unpublished, except in the sense that he distributed copies of them to various libraries with interests in African history....

Scope and Contents

Included is a letter of David Donald to his patron, Lord Sinclair, copied by a contemporary from the originals in Lord Sinclair's possession, and preceded by an account, by the copyist, of Donald's career. At the end are some descriptions of machines in Great Britain.

Scope and Contents

James Halkett was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Mauritius, Sir William Gomm, from 1842 to 1847, and to the Commander-in-Chief of India from 1850 to 1854. He was severely wounded in action in November 1854 and the diary for that year gives particular accounts of the battles he witnessed during the Crimean War.

This is a reply to the “Refutation of the mistatements and calumnies contained in Mr Lockhart's life of Sir Walter Scott”, published by James Ballantyne's trustees in 1838, but it is not J G Lockhart's reply which was published by Robert Cadell under the title ‘The Ballantyne-humbug handled’ in 1839.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: The collection covers Alexander Walker's military and administrative service in the East India Company in great detail from circa 1790 to 1801, notably in Malabar and then in Gujarat, where he was Political Resident at Baroda, until he left India in 1810. Scope and Contents From the Series:

Apart from the plays written specially for radio, such as ‘The Carlin Moth’ and 'As ithers see us', Robert McLellan also wrote a number of short pieces, often as part of a larger series. Many of these were broadcasts for schools. He also contributed to programmes such as 'Scottish Life and Letters', and wrote for television.
