Scope and Contents The papers consist mainly of letters written by authors to Blackwood as their publisher, and by others in search of publication, but they also include some manuscripts and proofs of works considered for publication, together with some papers of William Edmondstoune Aytoun and John Wilson ('Christopher North'). Letters to and from William MacLellan, Rev. John Mackechnie, the Duke of Argyll, Charles Hepburn (from whom a loan of money was obtained) and legal agents, concerning the increasingly acrimonious negotiations over Mackechnie's edition of the Dewar Manuscripts, vol. 1. William MacLellan's company went into administration in 1969.
