Album labelled, 'Letters &c. from 1791 to 1796 from George Ellis, Esq., to his [half-] sister Elizabeth Lindsay, afterwards Mrs. Schutz', but really a commonplace-book, containing poems, riddles, etc., of Ellis and others., 1791-1796.
Poems ascribed to George Ellis occur on folios 16 verso-20, 28 verso-39 verso. A list of letters of Ellis to Miss Lindsay, found loose, has been pasted on to folio 1. The name 'E. Lindsay' appears on folio ii verso and that of 'Aug. Schutz' on folio 26 verso.

MSS.9459-9469 consist of French music brought to Scotland by James and Harie Maule after their visits to France between 1678 and 1683. MSS.9470-9475 are opera scores and parts acquired by James Maule when in exile in Italy after the 1715 rising.

Commonplace book, 1863-1896, of Robert Dickson Glover, a merchant at Roslin and later in Portobello.
The book contains verses, historical and literary material, notes of events in Roslin, 1869-1873, and fragments of a diary for 1895-1896. A later hand has added copies of poems and of the will, May 1927, of John Glover who died in 1933 (folio 96).

The collection consists of manuscripts on a wide variety of subjects, many copied from manuscript or printed works, and chiefly dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Among them are some account-books, diaries, and other manuscripts of family interest (including a few concerning the 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, father of the 6th Marchioness of Lothian), but very few letters.
