Typescript draft of "Ibsen's ghost" by Sir James Matthew Barrie, with corrections and revisions in the hand of the author.

 Item
Identifier: MS.6645
Scope and Contents

"Ibsen's ghost" was the first play written entirely by Sir James Matthew Barrie to be publicly performed; it was staged in 1891 at "Toole's Theatre", hence the alternative title given in the typescript, and cancelled, 'or Toole-up-to-date'. It has not been published. Many of the alterations in this draft are in the nature of cuts; in particular the rhyming finale has been cut.

Dates: [1891, or before.]

 Sub-Series
Identifier: MSS.12855-12859
Scope and Contents From the Series:

As well as material of inherent literary or intellectual interest, the papers in this section, deriving from various members of the family, provide a record of entertainment and leisure in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

Dates: 1905-1910.

Typescript draft of 'Old friends' by Sir James Matthew Barrie, annotated, apparently for the original production of March 1910., [1910, or before.]

 Item
Identifier: MS.6637
Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

There are indications that this group of manuscripts was corrected and annotated with the original production of March 1910 in mind. In particular, MS.6638 has no corrections in James Barrie's hand, but has many stage and lighting directions in another hand, probably that of the 'D. McRae' whose name is written on the cover label. It may well have been the electrician's or stage manager's copy.

Dates: [1910, or before.]
