Scope and Contents From the Series: Sir Charles Dalrymple (1839-1916), formerly Fergusson, was the youngest son of Sir Charles Dalrymple Fergusson, 5th Baronet, of Kilkerran. He succeeded to the estates of Hailes on the death of his father in 1849, when he assumed the name of Dalrymple. He was created a baronet in 1887, and a Privy Councillor in 1905. Scope and Contents From the Series: Arthur Ralph Douglas Elliot was the second son of the 3rd Earl of Minto. He was educated privately, at Edinburgh University, and at Trinity College, Cambridge. After a brief period of practice on the Northern Circuit, he was elected Liberal M P for Roxburghshire in 1880; in 1886 he opposed Gladstone's Home Rule policy but held his seat as a Liberal Unionist until 1892. Scope and Contents

The Edinburgh Harmonists’ Society was founded in 1822 as the direct successor to the Catch Club and thereby of the Edinburgh Musical Society which began in 1728. It continued until 1950, when it became part of the Edinburgh Musical Society to which it transferred its papers and above all its valuable library, much of which had belonged to the Catch Club.

The Deaf and Dumb Congregation in Edinburgh began meeting together in 1830 following the establishment in the city of schools for deaf children. Scope and Contents

The Mastermind Club was founded in 1978 as a club for all those who had appeared on the show. A yearly quiz for members, called the Magnum, was hosted by Magnus Magnusson until 2005. Since 2006 Tony Dart has acted as Question Master for the quiz.

Scope and Contents From the Series:

The 'Book of Records' contains an unbroken run of minutes, and records of receipts and expenditure; a record of the deaths of members, 1763-1863, and membership lists, 1800-1872 are at the rear of the main volume, and there is a separate series of folios of reocrd, 1764-1772, probably removed at some time from the volume.
