Scope and Contents A folded almanac, designed to be worn on the girdle of its owner. It consists of 12 rectangular vellum sheets that are individually folded down to a sixth of their size. Each of them bears a Latin docket title to indicate its contents. It includes a table of movable feasts, a calendar, astrological tables and signs of the zodiac, diagrams of eclipses of the sun and moon from 1387 to 1462, a volvelle, notes and diagrams on bloodletting and information on the planets. ...

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

The letters in this sequence are of Sir Francis Bond Head largely to John Murray [II] and John Murray [III]. Over a 50 year period, Bond corresponded with the Murrays about his published works, travels, his life, the 'Quarterly Review', and gives opinions on manuscripts sent to him by Murray for consideration.

The manuscript is mostly in the hand of Austen Henry Layard, but would appear to include passages in the hand of a copyist. The manuscripts show additions and deletions, and includes proof illustrations. The first manuscript appears to be an earlier version.

The contents that was originally placed in Ms.42356 was subsumed in to Ms.42355. The reference Ms.42356 is therefore no longer in use.

Poems of George Algernon Fothergill inspired by Robert Burns.

Scope and Contents

The poems covers observations on Burns Nights, as well as on whisky and haggis.

Fothergill noted that he resided at the Craigiehall Estate, just outside Edinburgh, when he wrote all but three of the poems. This view appears repeatedly throughout the volume.
