Manuscript of act I, and typescripts of 'True Minds', a play by Nancy Brysson Morrison about Thomas and Jane Carlyle, broadcast in 1952 and 1954., 1952, 1954, undated.
The contents are as follows. (i) Manuscript of Act I, entitled 'The Flint and the Flame', undated (folio 1). This is not the version written for broadcasting. (ii) Two typescripts of a version intended for broadcasting, undated (folio 15). The second (folio 56) is heavily corrected and has pencilled remarks by Peggy Morrison. (iii) Annotated typescript of the broadcast, 1954 (folio 90). (iv) Fragments of typescripts, 1952, undated (folio l36).

Act III scenes 1 and 2 are omitted, and there are two manuscripts of Act II scene 2. It is followed (folio 123) by drafts of the songs and of Act III scene 4, and by a few pages of typescript.

Sydney Goodsir Smith wrote a number of plays, of which the best known is ‘The Wallace’ (Edinburgh, 1960). Most of the manuscripts of his plays are unpublished and undated.

Manuscript, undated, of a play 'The veiled sultan' by Margaret M Morrison, ‘March Cost’., [1969, or before.]
The play is based on the life of Aimée Du Buc de Rivéry (1763-1817), mother of Sultan Mahmoud II. 'March Cost' later rewrote the play as a novel which was published under the same title, (London, 1969). The text is preceded by notes and the draft of a letter about the play (folio 1-8).

William Soutar's output of work, most of it produced during the last thirteen bed-ridden years of his life, is quite remarkable. Apart from his regular and lively correspondence, and his poetry both in English and in Scots, he left a long sequence of diaries and journals, as well as a record of his dreams extending over more than twenty years.
