Scope and Contents From the Collection:

Papers include Maclean's notes on literary and historical figures, correspondence with Maclean following the death of his brother Calum, and letters sent to Maclean's wife, Renee, after his death.

The Papers also contain correspondence, invitations and programmes on various literary awards and events at which Maclean was honoured and in attendence.

Much of this relates to the demise of the Edinburgh Harmonists' Society in 1950, and to its absorption by the Edinburgh Society of Musicians. Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

This collection dates mainly from after 1988, when John McGrath and Elizabeth MacLennan resigned from the company which they had established, with David MacLennan, in 1973. Following the funding crisis in 2006, the company had to leave its base in the STUC building in Glasgow, and it was at this point that much of the material in this accession was presented to the National Library of Scotland.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: Miss Liebenthal, herself an able violinist, was best known for the lunch hour concerts she ran in the National Gallery of Scotland, from the Second World War until her death in 1970. She was particularly interested in introducing younger musicians to the public, and many of the players and singers she brought to Edinburgh went on to make distinguished careers. Scope and Contents

The papers concern Alastair Trevor Clark’s writing and colonial duties from the beginning of his career in 1949 until the end of his professional career in 1990. They relate to colonial relations within Nigeria and other countries including Hong Kong and the Solomon Islands. The papers comprise letters, manuscript, articles, printed material, maps, government documents, despatches, press cuttings, photographs and reprints of articles.

Programmes contain illustrations by Lucinda Mackay, who was also patron for a period of 10 years. File includes special editions marking the orchestra's 10th anniversary on 2 March 2002 and its 20th anniversary on 2 June 2012; a small number of 1-page concert flyers; and order forms for the book 'Orchestra Sketchbook' written and illustrated by Lucinda Mackay, and published in 1997.

The papers reflect Margo MacDonald`s life as a politician and broadcaster. Although somewhat miscellaneous, they provide an insight into her relationship with the Scottish National Party leadership throughout her life, and into some of the causes she advocated during her life, including independence and assisted suicide for terminally ill patients.
