The archive of the General Treasurer of the Free Church of Scotland, 1843-1900, with related papers including a few of slightly earlier and later date. The archive gives a complete picture of the financial basis of one of the most significant organised religious bodies in Scotland, from the Disruption to the first of the major Presbyterian reunions, dealing in great detail with the sources of finance and with its expenditure on a variety of projects.

At the beginning is Sir George Mackenzie's Inaugural Address, 1 March 1689. Pasted on the flyleaf is an original Minute of a Committee of Faculty, 1687, anent the making of a Catalogue, signed bu Mackenzie and others (Mackenzie was Dean 1682-1690).

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: The papers cover six centuries worth of family and estate papers of the Forbes, the Stuart Forbes, and the Trefusis families. Alexander de Forbes (c.1380-1448) was created the 1st Lord Forbes around 1440, the Lords Forbes of Pitsligo were descended from Sir William Forbes, brother of Alexander. The title was created in 1633 for Alexander Forbes (d.1636).
